BELAGA: A fire gutted a 27 doors longhouse at
Nanga Pawah Belaga (a Tanjung settlement with about 300 inhabitants), about 2
and a half hours boat ride from Kapit town yesterday morning.
According to the headman, Jilap bin
Usa, the fire was first spotted and believed to started from the kitchen of one
of the houses. It was believed that the fire started from the exploded gas
cylinder.
Hearing this, the anointed candidate
for BN for P216 Hulu Rajang; Wilson Ugak Kumbong quickly sprang into action
being the first person to come, console and handed his personal donations of
RM2K to the fire victims. Representing YB Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing who is
away on holidays abroad, Ugak announced RM10K from YB Tan Sri MRP grant next
year to help lessen the burden of them. Ugak also brought a team of Bomba
forensic team from Bintulu to investigate the real cause of the fire and to
estimate the losses incur. In Ugak’s team were also a team from the Welfare
Department Kapit headed by it’s Assistant Director; Peter Ngabong and his staff
from Belaga to hand the foodstuffs to the fire victims.
Yesterday, upon hearing the incident,
Wilson Ugak dispatched a team from PRS Belaga headed by Cr Bete Lahang to hand
over food stuffs and other necessities to assist the fire victims. PRS Baleh
Youth movement headed by its Deputy Youth Chief; Johnny Osman also contributed
some clothings to the fire victims.
